    shipping makes outfit prohibitive

    Comments about Blue Bandhani Shirt:

I purchased both the shirt and pants as a special gift because they looked so nice and National Geographic shipped them to Thailand at a cost of $56. When they arrived the recipient had to pay almost 2400 baht aditional cost which is equivalent to $80 which is a lot of money here but especially in Thailand. So never again!

        Comments about Blue Bandhani Shirt:

I took a chance ordering this without being sure of the sizing. I'm 5'6", usually at 10-12, and ordered a medium, which fits perfectly. The skirt flows away from the body nicely; the entire outfit is very attractive. Because the top and skirt match, I can wear it to my office and look "business casual". I love the colors; there are lots of accent options for accessories.

Ikat is a complex weaving style in which motifs are created not just on the loom but also before the threads are even dyed. For our rich blue cotton shirt, Guatemalan weavers begin by wrapping thick skeins of thread at intervals according to traditional family patterns. This tie-dyeing is what creates the range of blue and natural colors in our woven shirt. The technique is far more time-consuming and sophisticated than traditional plain, striped, or plaid weaves. Handwoven in Totonicapán, Guatemala.

The Oregon-based Pendleton Mill introduced their first patterned wool men's shirts more than 80 years ago—before that the options were grey, grey, and more grey. Unsurprisingly, the new color and pattern options were welcomed, and they've been in style ever since. Made with Umatilla wool, our washable wool trail shirt has a rugged, cabin-casual look that works just as well on hiking trails as it does sightseeing in town. Umatilla woolen is a versatile medium weight 100% virgin wool fabric that takes its name from Oregon’s Umatilla County, where Pendleton buys raw stock from local ranchers. Features ultra suede elbow patches, an open collar with a lined band, a buttoned chest pocket with a pencil slot, and a round tail.

In the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan, houses are often decorated with mandana paintings. This traditional folk art is often painted on the earthen walls, or on ground in front of one’s home, using red sand, ocher, and chalk powder, and the patterns often allude to Hindu gods, offering prayers for rain, a good harvest, good health, and more.

Patola is a form of double-ikat weaving, meaning that both the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads are dyed before being strung on the loom. This intricate process results in a bold pattern, often on a red background. It is practiced in many parts of Southeast Asia but is a particular specialty of Gujarat, where silk patola saris are often part of a bride’s trousseau.
