Comments about National Geographic Our Fifty States:

This book is very high quality printing with beautiful photographs, as I expected. I like the intro from Jimmy Carter but wish the book was updated. It was published in 1994. It would be wonderful to have Carter's comments along with an introduction by President Obama. One other disappointment for me was the lack of recognition of the importance of Silicon Valley and the world changing computer and high tech discoveries in the California section. Now, of course, biotech breakthroughs could be part of the state's credentials. Medical high technology and nano technology are also important in a fast changing world. Each state's significant cultures and focus are well done, such as the horses in Kentucky, the New Orleans festival, and more. They are not the trite pictures you might expect and are interesting and thought provoking. I especially like the breakdown of the states into sections with their relationship to each other. This is a valuable and durable book for children learning about the states, cities, geographic features, and regional areas of our United States. The quality of the book is a testament to the value of the content. It encourages pride in, and love of, our country.
