The Calico Museum in Ahmadabad houses India’s most important textile collection. The pattern of this silk-modal-blend tunic, called a kurta, is inspired by the museum’s early-19th-century printed fabrics made for trade with Europe. Hand-sewn pearlescent sequins add sparkle to the split V-neck design.

Made in India. Silk-modal blend.

    Comments about Indian Silk Tunic:

I like the length and the feel of the material. It's a pretty blouse, and despite the sequins, which are fairly minimal, it's not flashy or gaudy. The tan material is a little sheer, but nothing really shows through with flesh-colored undergarments; you don't have to wear a camisole underneath. Very nice for the sale price, but I never would have purchased it for the original price.

The women who create our silk-wrapped bracelets are equally important in the markets of Delhi for their role as bangle fitters. Many Indian women wear bangles from wrist to elbow, and once tightly in place, the bangles are rarely removed. Our bracelets fit loosely for a less permanent commitment.

Indian textiles have been influencing world fashion for centuries. In the mid-19th century, women clamored for paisley patterns on Kashmiri shawls. In the mid-20th century, the peace-and-love generation popularized bold graphics and Nehru collars. This relaxed tunic updates a ’60s style with a pattern inspired by raindrops on a lake. Semisheer 100% cotton with a split V-neckline and side vents.

Our embroidered tunic brings a burst of colorful flowers to your spring wardrobe. Artisans in a family-run Delhi workshop use nine shades of hand-dyed cotton thread to embroider flowers along the collar and sleeves of a traditional, split-V-neck cotton tunic. Yellow whipstitching along the cuffs and hem adds a finishing touch. Made in India.

Evidence suggests that silk production existed in the Indus Valley as early as 2450 b.c., but the techniques truly arrived in India via Silk Route trade with China. Today India is second only to China in silk manufacturing. This hand-loomed silk shantung blouse is a classic cut that shows off the texture and play of light in the fabric. Front and back darts add shaping.

By the 1960s, Indian motifs and textile traditions were inspiring designers around the world. This comfortable tunic combines a classic Indian style with bold floral graphics. As the overland route of the Silk Road crossed through China, the Himalayas, and Persia, semi-permanent encampments known as caravanserais grew up along the route to provide travellers and traders with food and shelter. Printed with an Indo-Tibetan mandala formed from traditional Indian paisleys, with a touch of silk for a luxurious feel, this blouse celebrates the legacy of cross-cultural exchange made possible by these informal communities of the Silk Road.

A paisley print in peacock hues decorates this lightweight, traditional Indian, split-V-neck cotton tunic. Paisley patterns, based on a stylized mango leaf, have been popular ever since merchant sea captains began bringing Indian textiles back to Europe and the U.S. in the 1700s. This loose-fitting, flattering tunic suits a range of styles with its classic cut and timeless palette. The design may vary based on the cut of the fabric in each individual garment.
