Adorn your walls with one of the most famous images to appear on the cover of National Geographic. From the lens of world-renowned photographer Steve McCurry is this poster-size portrait of the famous ''Afghan Girl.'' Taken in 1984 in an Afghan refugee camp, the ''Afghan Girl'' remained anonymous until 2002 when Steve McCurry returned to Afghanistan to search for her once again. There he found Sharbat Gula, with the same haunting eyes as she had 17 years earlier.

After graduating with honors from Penn State University and spending two years as a newspaper photographer, award-winning photographer Steve McCurry went to India to work as a freelance photographer. His career launched after returning from Pakistan and Afghanistan with rolls of film sewn into his clothes. His were among the first pictures published showing the conflict in Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion. McCurry has covered many wars around the world, and his images focus on the human aspect of war. ''Most of my images are grounded in people, and I try to convey what it is like to be that person, a person caught in a broader landscape, that I guess you'll call the human condition.''

First print was damaged in the mail, but NG Customer Service sent me a new one right away. Looking forward to seeing the print framed. Colors were not exactly what I expected, but it is a beautiful photograph. I had tried to contact the photographer years ago for a signed print with no luck. Happy that this one worked out.

This is one of those pictures that everyone who see it stop in silence to gaze. It is truely one of a kind. The picture at first sight is beautiful but after you look close her meager impoverished life spills out.

Comments about Signed National Geographic Afghan Girl Poster:

The picture is nice, suitable for framing, as is. I cut my own matt and really matted the picture, put it under glass in a simple but nice wood frame and hung it. When people hear the story behind this photograph that's when the expression on their faces just says it all, no words necessary.

Comments about Signed National Geographic Afghan Girl Poster:

This photograph was seared into my memory many years ago when the original version of it was published, showing the young woman holding her fatally wounded child in her arms, a testament to the cruelty of war on innocent civilians. I wonder if she ever had any more children, and if they survived.

Photographer Steve McCurry's 1984 portrait of an Afghan refugee girl with startling sea-green eyes is arguably the most famous image ever published by National Geographic. She remained anonymous until 2002 when McCurry returned to Afghanistan and, employing old-fashioned detective work as well as the FBI's cutting edge facial recoginition technology, was able to identify her as Sharbat Gula—17 years older but with the same haunting eyes.
