Receive accurate time signals from the U.S. atomic clock in a handsome wristwatch that retains the age-old look of analog craftsmanship. Inspired by U.S. Army field watches that remain heirlooms for many servicepeople, this watch receives accurate time signals in many cities around the globe from the U.S., U.K., German, and Japanese atomic clocks. A leather band and stainless steel bezel frame a classic face featuring National Geographic's distinctive logo. Displays both 12-hour and 24-hour military time, day of the week, digital date, and seconds. Reception depends on proximity to an atomic clock. Reception can also be affected by weather and atmospheric conditions.

Not available for shipment outside the U.S. and Canada.

In the U.S., the accuracy and speed that your watch and clock will receive signal updates depends on your proximity to the U.S. atomic clock in Fort Collins, CO. This means that the majority of personal atomic clocks and watches will synchronize only within the continental United States, and may not synchronize correctly in Hawaii or Alaska or on continents other than North America. Personal atomic clocks and watches work only in some areas of Canada and Mexico.

Another limitation of home atomic clocks and watches is that they may not receive the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) signal within large buildings containing steel construction. Moving clocks and watches closer to windows in these types of buildings will usually resolve the synchronization problem.

  • 1 1/2''-diameter, mineral glass face.
  • We recommend having a jeweler replace the battery in this watch.

  • We recommend having the watch battery replaced by a jeweler, as it is intentionally difficult to remove the back. This helps protect the watch mechanism. However, as global atomic functionality is relatively new, even experienced jewelers may have a difficult time re-setting the watch. Here are the steps to follow.

    • The hour and minute must be manually set:
    • Set the hour by pressing the bottom right button until the three-letter city code blinks. Press the button quickly two more times until you see "H" on the screen with a blinking number next to it. Press the top button to scroll through the hours, keeping in mind that this is displaying 24-hour clock time. Press the bottom right button again to set hour. You'll see a "wait" icon and the second hand will spin as the watch adjusts itself.
    • Set the minutes by pressing the bottom right button until the three-letter city code blinks. Press the button quickly three more times until you see "M" on the screen with a blinking number next to it. Press the top button to scroll through the minutes. Press the bottom right button again to set the minutes. You'll see a "wait" icon and the second hand will spin as the watch adjusts itself.

This is a very good watch and the overall quality and workmanship is excellent. I've been looking for a watch like this for years. You have to be technically oriented to follow the instructions for setting the time and date or changing the battery. They are accurate if you take the time and patience to follow them exactly. Otherwise you should send the watch to the service center referenced in the documentation. The online picture of the watch shows an irregularity at the 3 o'clock position. This is just a reflection, the actual case is perfectly round and smooth.

The watch is beautiful and when I'm lucky it picks up WWVL. Hawaii is on the fring for reception of WWVL. I wish the National Geographic would make it clear that Hawaii is a very poor location for WWVL reception. This means you have to run the watch on its internal clock which seems to connect to WWVL at rare times causing the time to be incorrect due to the weak signal. If I lived in California I would love the watch!

It looks great. Could not regulate it after replacing the battery, had to send it in to have it set correctly, there is a fee for that. I am in CT zone but had to switch the zone to MT because it would not adjust for day light savings time. Now, it is running 2 minutes slow. The window that is supposed to show if it is being regulated by the atomic function shows NO instead of OK.

This National Geographic special issue starts with the geography of the Holy Land itself, including modern-day Israel and Lebanon, parts of Jordan, Syria, and northeast Egypt. By looking at the rise of early cities, like Jericho and Ugarit, we see the combination of commerce, culture, and politics that shaped early regional civilizations. Then the issue moves into the three faiths that intersect in Jerusalem.
