During excavation for the deepest submerged tunnel in the world, engineers in Istanbul uncovered a hidden past: a preserved ancient harbor. It is the biggest maritime discovery in history, and to date, more than 30 shipwrecks from the Byzantine era have been recovered. With new findings every day—including stone foundations from a settlement dating back 8,000 years—construction of the tunnel has come to a halt, and the delay is costing the engineers millions. Now, National Geographic goes on site to one of the largest archaeological excavations ever undertaken and grants viewers behind-the-scenes access to this heated battle between modernizers and historians.

Comments about Tunnel to a Lost World DVD Exclusive:

The video is to National Geographic's usual high production standards. However, I had to give the DVD a 3-star rating (which Nat Geo says means "acceptable, but not quiet what I expected") because the description led me to believe that it would be mainly, if not entirely, about the archaeological work and discoveries and it wasn't--about half of the video was about the Marmaray Tunnel project. That was interesting, but not what I bought the DVD for. Also, and it was my fault for not checking this before purchasing it, the video was produced quite some time ago--in 2008--and, accordingly, the video did not cover newer developments, which are many.
