This delicate necklace carries a heartfelt message of love, or cinta, on the artist’s native Java. He hand-stamps the word “LOVE” on a rustic gold-plated brass charm, which hangs from a delicate nylon strand. Profound in its simplicity, the necklace is an affectionate gift and a touching reminder.

Handcrafted in Bali, Indonesia. 18-karat gold-plated brass; nylon cord. Necklace: approximately 18"L, lobster claw clasp. Pendant: approximately 5/8"L x 3/8"W.

Javanese artisan Hariyono grew up learning the hand-tooled leather trade from his father, a shoemaker. As a teenager, he moved to Bali, where he learned the basics of metalwork as well. After working for several years as a shoemaker, Hariyono branched out into jewelry design, continuing to use leather, and incorporating other natural materials like wood, bone, and horn. “I prefer to work with raw, rugged, natural elements, and to find new methods through which to convert them into polished pieces of art,” he says. The flow of international tourists through Bali is a constant source of inspiration. “My designs are born from a love of world cultures,” Hariyono says. “They blur the lines between art, nature, fashion, and lifestyle.”
