Ladakh women of the western Himalaya traditionally wore massive headdresses called perak to display their wealth and status. These perak were covered in coveted trade items, including turquoise from Tibet and coral from the Mediterranean. This jewelry pays tribute to Ladakhi art and ritual. Hand-strung in India of turquoise- and coral-colored glass, wood, and brass beads.
