I ordered this feeder after weeks of constantly chasing squirrels off the old feeder, which was also a tube feeder for finches, chickadees, wrens, etc. The large, sturdy cage around this tube food dispenser is very effective for keeping squirrels out. My one complaint is that because of the size of the cage "bars", only small birds are able to access the feeder... which is fine, except one half of the food dispenser is open screen (the other side is enclosed tube with two holes/perches for access). Seeds which small birds eat, e.g., Nyjher, are too small to stay within the openings of that screen - it was designed to hold larger seeds, which small birds do not eat. So our many birds are only able to utilize half the feeder, and only 2 or 3 birds can eat simultaneously. The wire screen should be a smaller grid size.

We bought this for a Christmas gift. It does keep the blue jays out, but squirrels get right in. Infact, you have to go out and shake the feeder to get the little guy out. The feeder is very sturdy but NOT squirrel proof!!! Wish we could upload pictures on this application... quite funny to see. I would recommend this feeder just because it is so sturdy! Birds (and squirrels) love it.

We have, previously spent a lot of money trying to discourage squirrels from stealing food from our bird feeders but this feeder has solved that problem and if they weren't quite so expensive, we would buy another one.

I have the old style circular sunflower seed feeder from National Geographic and have had to use springs to keep squirrels from lifting the cap off while it is hanging. I admit to not being able to do it myself, but had to look around for the cap (chain broke), and refill the feeder. There is no such thing as a squirrel proof feeder.
After 9 years, the bottom finally rusted out.

I love to watch birds and get a variety at my new bird feeder. I have watched the squirrels hanging on and they try to get the seed, but cannot!! They have to pick the seed up from the ground under the feeder. I didn't think there was a squirrel proof feeder, but this one seems to be!!! WOW!

Modern, simple, and beautifully constructed, this modernist bird feeder attracts a range of species and carries enough seed to feed all of your backyard bird visitors. The slanted roof isn’t just an eye-catching detail, it also protects the feeder from the rain, keeping the seed dry. The built-in hopper dispenses seed as it’s consumed, and the inner tube can be easily removed for cleaning. The predator-resistant construction was dreamed up by an English birder to solve the age-old problem of squirrels sacking the bird feeder. Designed with help from the British Trust for Ornithology, the epoxy-coated steel frame lets birds in for year-round feeding. The polycarbonate feeding tube holds approximately 26 oz. of seeds or nuts.

As their wild habitats give way to urban development, more and more birds live in residential landscapes. Increasingly, ornithologists are turning to backyard birders for critical data about their avian neighbors. And the easiest way for citizen scientists to observe birds is to feed them.

Cardinals, jays, woodpeckers, and chickadees are just some of the bird species who are likely to be attracted to a suet feeder. This one features a double cage construction designed to discourage unwanted diners like squirrels and cats. Suitable for year-round feeding, it's made of spot-welded, nylon-coated steel. The trap is easy to open and clean, and the locking mechanism on the lid doubles as a handle to prevent predators from opening the feeder. Developed with the British Trust for Ornithology.

Join National Geographic photographer Tim Laman and ornithologist Ed Scholes into the jungles of one of last wild places on earth—New Guinea. Far-flung islands, impenetrable jungle and extreme elevations all create areas of isolation where ordinary birds have evolved into some of the most beautifully bizarre species on earth. Digital explorers on an old-fashioned quest, Tim and Ed have survived everything the jungle has to throw at them to become first in the world to capture all 39 species of Birds of Paradise on film.

Known for their vivid plumes and strange courtship rituals, birds-of-paradise are among the world's rarest and most fascinating. There are only 39 known species of birds of paradise, which are found only in New Guinea and parts of Australia. These remarkable birds are just one of the species captured here in a Victorian-style illustration that we've turned into a vintage-style wooden puzzle. Each of the 250 pieces is a different shape, and there are many bird-shaped "whimsy" pieces found throughout.
