What began as an ode to the American farmer has evolved into an anthem to an iconic American way of life. Inspiring and moving, the book follows the themes of the heartwarming essay by legendary radio commentator Paul Harvey, “So God Made a Farmer.” Based on the ad watched by millions during The Big Game in 2013, the result is a rich, inspiring book that provides a deeper dive into the lives and work of farmers as well as the photographers who captured them. With over 200 photographs shot by ten world-class photographers, including National Geographic's William Albert Allard, this gorgeous book turns a spotlight on the American farmer, and features every aspect of his/her life in a compelling photographic poem.

Comments about The Farmer in All of Us:

I bought this beautiful book at a book store today only to discover it excluded the farmers of the great Midwest... Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, etc. were not represented. As a Midwesterner my heart was crushed to learn that the farmers of the Midwest weren't invited to the sitting of the family portrait.

Inspired by a Balinese folktale, these sparrows tell the story of a bird family and a rice farmer. When the farmer begins the harvest without waiting for his neighbors to help him, the sparrows know it is time to teach their chicks to fly. The birds are individually hand-carved and colored with a water-based silvery gilt. These beautiful sculptures serve as a reminder that sometimes we are well served by taking responsibility for ourselves and our world.

An unexpected flash of color is your first clue—there is more to these traditional West African baskets than meets the eye. Using a traditional coiling technique, and working together with other women from their village, rural women from Senegal’s Wolof community braid a thick cattail grass called njodax with strips of recycled plastic. In the past, palm fronds would have been used with the njodax, but for several decades the women have been partial to inexpensive and colorful recycled plastics they can find in the city.
