Comments about Lily of The Incas Button-Front Chambray Blouse:

I ordered three of these blouses, two medium and one small. My normal size falls between medium and small, and I wasn't sure if the blouse would shrink. I also wasn't sure what effect the stretchy insert that runs along the sides of the blouse, from the underarm seam to the hem, would have on the fit. The insert is barely noticeable, and since I don't like buttoned blouses that "pucker" across the breast, I would recommend the medium if you are between sizes. The indigo color is beautiful, it has "depth". The embroidery shows up very nicely on this blouse, and any small wrinkles are disguised by the color. There was one flaw on the size small blouse. The stitching on the cuff of one of the sleeves was off. The lacy cuff was separated completely from the sleeve almost half the way around. I won't be sending it back though. Experience has taught me that it ends up costing you more than the item is worth, in shipping charges, and I can sew, although I shouldn't have to, for a blouse at this price. Over all though, I really like this item. It's feminine and pretty while being comfortable and beautifully designed. Very unique.

The South American Alstroemeria is a genus of brightly colored flowers known as the lily of the Incas. Popular in floral arrangements, the 120-some members of the Alstroemeria family have an interesting trait in that their leaves are upside-down—that is, they twist so that what we see as the top of the leaf is actually the leaf’s underside.

Chikan is the traditional white-on-white embroidery of Lucknow in northern India. Artists start by block-printing a design onto the fabric, which they trace using a variety of stitches to create a textured, lacy pattern. This semisheer, short-sleeve blouse features chikan work (chikankari, which literally means “embroidery” in the Urdu language) covering the front, along with a squared neckline and side vents.

Although the Inca had no written language, they did have complex record-keeping systems called quipus, made of knotted, colored ropes. Researchers believe quipus communicated census and tax information, perhaps even poems and histories. Our charcoal gray cardigan features designs inspired by these extraordinary Inca objects, painstakingly hand-embroidered on the front, back, and sleeves for a festive look.

When Spanish explorers reached the Inca Empire in the 16th century, they thought they had come to the end of the earth. In fact, they had stumbled into a culture much more like their own than they realized. The Inca and the Spanish were both highly developed civilizations that lavished gold on the arts and drew inspiration from the natural world. This beautiful blouse, made from lightweight, breathable organic cotton, draws on the aesthetic traditions of both the Inca and the Spaniards. Its swirling motif is modeled on the elliptical leaves of the flowering petrea, the scientific name for several vines found in South America.

The asymmetrical collar of this traditional Chinese blouse has been popular since the beginning of the Qing dynasty in 1644. Noblewomen would have worn heavily embroidered jackets and vests with frog-button collars like this. Rural Chinese still wear a less ornate version as a work jacket. This red cotton blouse combines the open neck and easy-care fabric of the rural style with an embroidered hem that hints at the splendor of the Qing court. Red is the most auspicious color in Chinese culture, and the peony is called the flower of riches and honor.

Evidence suggests that silk production existed in the Indus Valley as early as 2450 b.c., but the techniques truly arrived in India via Silk Route trade with China. Today India is second only to China in silk manufacturing. This hand-loomed silk shantung blouse is a classic cut that shows off the texture and play of light in the fabric. Front and back darts add shaping.
