Lacy screen-printed patterns and hand-embroidered flowers transform a classic T-shirt into an artful garment. The printed designs are inspired by the rice-powder drawings that women create in front of their homes in southern India. Called kolam, the drawings are meant to bring good fortune to all who dwell in the house.

Women’s sizes S (4-6), M (8-10), L (12-14), XL (16-18).

100% cotton. Hand-embroidered in India.

Machine wash.

    Beautiful embroidered T-shirt

    By Heidi in Columbus

    from Columbus, OH

    Verified Buyer

    Pros

    • Beautiful handiwork

    Cons

    • Snug fit

    Best Uses

    • Will wear to yoga class

    Comments about Embroidered Kolam-inspired Tee:

I love the handiwork of the embroidery, but the fit is a bit snug for a large & thus not flattering on me, but would probably look better if I had ordered an XL. Most of my clothes are large. It is 100% cotton so I'm afraid it might shrink after washing. I hope not.

Throughout India, Hindu festivals are accompanied by intricate rangoli—designs “painted” on the ground using rice, sand, even flower petals. These auspicious symbols are the inspiration for the embroidered designs on our black travel shirt. At the center of each medallion along the neckline is a small mirror, a traditional part of Diwali decorations in northwestern India. An ideal travel shirt, the soft knit resists wrinkles and drapes beautifully the moment it’s unpacked. Purple seams decorate the front and back.

The Punjab region in northern India is brimming with highly creative artisans who make everything from ornate jewelry to detailed needlework bedding and fabric. This classic tunic represents those decorative arts with subtle tone-on-tone embroidery trimming the neck and cuffs and accented by a scattering of beads across the body and tiny bell buttons at the neckline. This embroidered tunic evolved from a typical Punjabi garment called a kameez, a loose cotton shirt with an airy quality to keep you cool. Made in India.

Craftswomen from Thailand’s Hmong tribe embroider this bright and richly textured bag with patterns inspired by distinctive paj ntaub (pronounced pahn-DAH-OH), or “flower cloth” textiles. Since the Hmong language had no written form until missionaries introduced it in the 1950s, family histories are often told through these elaborate embroidered and appliquéd textiles.
