It contained more than 7,000 life-size terra cotta warriors, an incredible feat of craftsmanship and one of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries of the past 100 years.

These tabletop figures are accurate miniature replicas of a general, soldier, archer, and horse excavated at the site. Made in China from hand-carved molds, their rustic finish evokes the centuries-old appearance of the army that remains amassed at the burial site.

American War Generals is the story of how the Army's withdrawal from Vietnam shaped America's future wars and the generals who fought them. "We think if we go to war we automatically win," General Stanley McChrystal tells us. "I realized in the summer of 2005 that we were in a very difficult fight in Iraq and there was every possibility we could lose." In this two-hour special, America's leading combat generals talk about how they spent their careers training to fight a conventional enemy like the Soviet Union, with tanks, clear frontlines and an enemy in uniform, but then found themselves bogged down fighting guerrilla wars in Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11—the very type of war the Army hoped it would never again fight after Vietnam. Special Features: Behind the Scenes.

The Untold Civil War
(Based on 3 reviews)

Was Gettysburg a tactical success, or was the outcome determined by a far more mundane factor: access to fresh water? How did the need to spread information about the dead and wounded give rise to the U.S. Postal Service? Did President Lincoln really age so dramatically during the course of the war, or was a rare disease to blame for the shocking difference in images of him from before and during the war? From overlooked elements, such as the role of weather, health, and high emotions, to the world-changing effect of the rise of female workers, to the many "firsts" including the introduction of standard time, pre-sized clothing, canned goods, toilets, and Santa Claus, The Untold Civil War reveals new facets of a seemingly well-known slice of American history, just in time to commemorate its 150th anniversary.
