This goatskin leather jacket by Schott is a replica of the standard G-1 flight jacket issued to enlisted Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard aviators in the 1940s. Known to moviegoers everywhere as the flight jacket worn by Tom Cruise and his co-stars in Top Gun, it remains part of the uniform for officers and enlisted aviation personnel in the U. S. Navy.

This replica follows the construction of earlier jackets, with a goatskin shell and sheepskin collar (current uniform issue is usually cowhide with a synthetic collar). The lining, cuffs, and hem are all nylon. Two roomy exterior patch pockets snap shut. Each jacket is individually hand-cut and tailored in the U.S.

Made in the U.S. Goatskin, sheepskin, nylon. Men’s sizes M (38-40), L (42-44), XL (46-48).

Professional leather cleaning only.

Comments about Standard Issue G-1 Military Flight Jacket:

This jacket is very well made and fits me perfectly. The bi-swing cut makes moving your arms up and down very comfortable. Sleeves don't bind. Has an inside pocket accessible just inside the zipper that's very nice. I'll use it for going into town spring and fall. The fur collar is too much in the summer and not removable. No slash pockets for a place to put your hands.

Comments about Standard Issue G-1 Military Flight Jacket:

When everything you pick up has a Made in China label it's refreshing to buy a Made In U.S.A. garment that has so much history behind it. My Father was a WW2 Navy Veteran who impressed me to buy American. He's gone but his words haven't lost their impact on me. You will wear this jacket with pride.

For civilians, the jacket might be best known as the signature look of Tom Cruise's character Maverick from the 1986 movie Top Gun.

The first aviators adopted leather as their material of choice because of its durability, warmth, and good looks. This garment takes its inspiration from the G-1 Jacket that was standardized by the US Navy in 1940. The G-1 displaced the iconic A-2 style in the mid-1940s. In 1969, the US Navy Fighter Weapons School was established and only the very best aviators were invited try out the "Top Gun" course. Those who graduated represented the best of the best. These elite graduates adorned their issued G-1 Flight Jackets with military patches that reflected their personal accomplishments.

        (Based on 7 reviews)
        Category: Clothing/Men's Clothing/Jackets and Vests
This authentic B-3 jacket became the military-issued cold-weather flight jacket in 1934, and it is still the warmest and most insulating bomber jacket made. Aviators in WWII bombers came to rely on their B-3 jackets as they often flew their missions over Europe in unpressurized cabins, where air temperatures could drop to more than 60 degrees below zero. Our B-3 is made from an amazingly soft and supple genuine sheepskin with a classic, aged look and deep-pile natural shearling along the body, sleeves, and collar. With double straps under the collar and straps at the waist that cinch to adjust the fit and keep out wind. Traditional leather welted seams and side-entry pockets are authentic details from the original. Made in U.S.A.

National Geographic performed an important service during World War II as we supplied maps to the Allies. Maps were often sewn in to the lining of the A-2 flight jackets in case the pilots were shot down over enemy territory. This is a reproduction of the historical WWII flight jackets, originally issued in 1931 and then worn by the allied pilots who flew perilous missions over wartime terrain, and the lining features a re-creation of the survival maps of southern France. A surface of vintage French lamb leather adds to the authenticity. Features include some of the customizations that pilots preferred, such as the wind flap, front zipper with storm flap, hidden snap-down collar points, knit cuffs and waistband, and flap-top and side-entry pockets. Imported.

Part of standard-issue military wear during WWII, sweaters like this olive wool pullover were popular among servicemen for comfort, durability, and easy pullover warmth. The shawl-collar style buttons up to cut the cold just as it did onboard aircraft carriers in the '40s. Cotton twill canvas-reinforced elbows add durability. Imported.

The swirling pattern of paisley—in Farsi called boteh, the word for a young flower or palm leaf—evolved from a traditional Kashmiri design. The Silk Road brought Kashmiri shawls to Europe where they became wildly popular. The Scottish mill that was first able to re-create the intricate design was in Paisley, Scotland, and gave the pattern its English name. This lightweight, 100% cotton, open-front jacket is made in India with an allover paisley pattern and hand-beaded accents. The greens, blues, reds, and pinks evoke the flowers in Kashmir's Shalimar Garden, built by 17th-century Mughal emperor Jahangir and famous for its nightly fountain displays.

This adventure-ready cotton canvas jacket is inspired by gear worn by miners and ranchers in the vast Australian outback, and treated with an oilskin finish that makes water bead up and run right off. The 12-ounce cotton canvas resists snags and has a broken-in softness from day one. Adjustable back tabs at the waist help tailor the fit. Features a poly-filled cotton lining for warmth, with nylon-lined sleeves. Two lined hip pockets, two zippered chest pockets, and an inner security pocket provide safe space to stash your travel essentials.

The grounds of Vienna's Belvedere Palace have hosted one of Europe's greatest gardens since Belvedere was designed in the early 1700s. Topiary-lined avenues exist alongside the emperor's baroque private garden. This double-faced boiled wool jacket is designed with the same traditionally Austrian combination of elegance and exuberance. The classic Austrian cut emphasizes a design heritage as refined as the garden's formal walkways, while scrolling velvet trim along the collar, hem, and sleeves adds a playful spark to a sophisticated style. The wind-resistant and wrinkle-free natural fiber is ideal for travel.

New Delhi’s Lotus Temple is a landmark of contemporary architecture. The striking Bahál'í house of worship was built in 1986 as a dome that mimics an unfolding lotus blossom. Its white concrete “petals” are dramatically lit up at night, and the structure is surrounded by nine ponds and 26 acres of formal gardens.
