Item #2002066

For more than 130 years, Cincinnati-based Rookwood Pottery has been a premier American manufacturer of ceramic art pottery and tiles. Founder Maria Longwood was inspired by the Japanese ceramics she saw at the 1876 Centennial Exhibtion in Philadelphia, and opened a company to improve the quality of American ceramics. By 1889 Rookwood had shocked the international art community by winning the First Prize Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle—an achievement unheard of for a U.S. manufacturer.

The company remains strong today, backed by supporters who are committed to keeping production in Ohio. Artists and glaze chemists work closely to create designs and choose colors that will enhance the signature Rookwood style of uniquely pooled glaze. This quartet of American birds was designed and sculpted by a Cincinnati artist in a style inspired by early 20th-century Art Deco design. Enjoy the complete set of cardinal, bluejay, rook, and robin in a deluxe mitered oak frame.

Each stoneware tile is 6” square and can be removed and exchanged with other designs, making this a perfect gift for Rookwood collectors.

Not available for shipment outside of the continental U.S.
