Also called vegetable ivory, hardened tagua is extremely durable and can be cut with saws to form these gemlike shapes. Each is hand-dyed to achieve a palette of pastel hues, and is strung in an eclectic pattern with silver-plated links.

              Comments about Colombian Tagua Necklace:

The product is of very good quality. But besides the bad packaging, the size of the so called tagua nuts are very huge! If they were half or even one-third the size, the necklace would be perfect. For that reason, I had to return the product!

I love this necklace. Get ready to have people ask you about it! The faceted design of the tagua nut really stands out. People are taken away that's it's a nut and want to know more. The elegant and light weight design make it easy to wear with jeans or a dress. Well done.

Jasper, a form of chalcedony, has been used since ancient times for everything from arrow tips to official carved seals to snuff bottles that were highly collectible in 19th- and early-20th-century China. This triple strand of green, reddish, and brown jasper beads is interrupted throughout by pearls, and is inspired by the beaded necklaces that were popular in the Mandarin court of the late 17th century.

The image of a handwritten letter, folded and sealed with wax, perhaps handed to a valet or maid for delivery, is a common theme in depictions of the 19th century. Many people had seals engraved with their initials or family crest. This sterling silver necklace is cast from the impression of an antique seal that may have belonged to someone associated with seafaring. The design features an escalop, an emblem of safe travel. Leaping dolphins, regarded as guides, signify protection across the vast sea. And seagulls represent the welcoming sound of the shore after a long voyage.

A delicately woven sterling silver chain is the focus of this necklace, handcrafted in Thailand by silversmiths from the northern hill tribes. Silver jewelry is a rich part of hill tribe tradition, both making it and wearing it. Women traditionally wear elaborate necklaces, headdresses, and bracelets for festivals and celebrations, and many hill tribe people prefer silver to paper currency. This necklace features beaded and braided elements created by members of three different Thai hill tribes.

During the 1st century AD, glass production in the Roman world drastically changed as the art of glass blowing was discovered and vessels for everyday use began to be made in aqua hues. Remains of many 2,000-year-old drinking glasses, vases, and jugs continue to be uncovered across the former Roman Empire, especially in Israel. Each glass medallion in this remarkable necklace was once part of an object that was created more than two millennia ago. It may have been part of a water vessel carried by a servant, or a bottle that held perfume or medicine.

According to Lithuanian legend, amber is the tears of the sea goddess, Jurate, who mourns her lover, the fisherman Kastytis. The thunder god, Perkunas, was enraged that a goddess fell in love with a mortal, and punished her by drowning Kastytis and destroying Jurate’s undersea amber palace, pieces of which are said to wash up on Baltic shores to this day. The story has been told in poems, ballets, and even a rock opera. Our necklace of Baltic amber slivers pays homage to this star-crossed romance.
