This elegant quilted jacket is perfect for travelers who want to let their colors shine—some of the time. It reverses from ivory-hued cotton to bright, hand-loomed, Madras-style plaid linen. Embroidered flowers and leaves decorate the entire front, back, and sleeves no matter which side is worn. Features fabric-covered buttons.

Paintings of Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of prosperity and the embodiment of beauty, standing on a lotus blossom, inspired the floral design. Lotus flower petals are typically smooth, but here the designer chose to create a fanciful scalloped edge that evokes the ruffled garlands of marigold, jasmine, and roses that devotees offer at the goddess’s shrines.

Made in India. Cotton, linen, and rayon. Women’s sizes S (4-6), M (8-10), L (12-14), XL (16-18).

Dry clean receommended.

Comments about Lotus Flower Reversible Jacket:

The jacket is pretty and an unusual design. It is not trendy or overdone. The darker side (when reversed) is less attractive & the stitches look like the "wrong side." The sleeves are very long, but when the cuff is turned back, the inside color does not blend with the light outside colors.

Under the Balinese sun, artisans decorate lengths of fabric using a traditional batik technique developed in the coastal town of Lasem on the neighboring island of Java. Lasem is known for centuries of cross-cultural exchange and immigration with China, and bright red colors are typical of Lasem batik, as seen in this reversible jacket. Lightly quilted and fully finished with pockets and frog closures on both sides. Reverses to a rich aubergine (see online). Golden batik-dyed floral patterns grace both sides. Please accept slight variations due to the nature of the dyeing process.

Intricately hand-tie-dyed textiles (called bandhani or bandhej) are a specialty of Gujarat in western India. Fabrics are pinched, pulled, and wrapped with thread before being dyed, creating patterns where the thread resists the color. Some of the best bandhani is found in Gujarat wedding saris. The vivid emerald and teal hues of this reversible, lightly quilted silk wrap jacket are the result of hours of dyeing to achieve the brightest possible colors. Please accept variations in the hand-dyed fabric.

The swirling pattern of paisley—in Farsi called boteh, the word for a young flower or palm leaf—evolved from a traditional Kashmiri design. The Silk Road brought Kashmiri shawls to Europe where they became wildly popular. The Scottish mill that was first able to re-create the intricate design was in Paisley, Scotland, and gave the pattern its English name. This lightweight, 100% cotton, open-front jacket is made in India with an allover paisley pattern and hand-beaded accents. The greens, blues, reds, and pinks evoke the flowers in Kashmir's Shalimar Garden, built by 17th-century Mughal emperor Jahangir and famous for its nightly fountain displays.
