Besides being a usable compass for hiking or finding you way in any situation, this compass is also nice to look at and solidly made. I didn't expect it to weigh as much as it did - I've heard of using keys for self-defense, but this would work far better (and keep on working)! :-) But seriously, it is made well enough that I don't have to worry about being too hard on it. The Celtic design adds to the charm and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. Did I mention that it is authentic as well? It's made by Mullingar Pewter, in Ireland. It truely is an Irish Compass.

    Comments about Irish Pewter Compass:

Two to choose from, each completely opposite the other. Bought one for nephew's graduation: beautiful, classy, well made, arrived carefully boxed. Another bought by daughter for me for Mother's Day: arrived poorly packaged in padded envelope, in a watch box with a wrist band holder even though it isn't a watch and has no wrist band. Broken with medallion off, but when placed where it should have been, it didn't seem to fit anyway, which might explain why it was ripped off. Cracked glass, scratched pewter. It couldn't have been in worse shape. It was a shock when it arrived because I expected the quality of what I had just purchased for my nephew only weeks before.

Purchased this pocket watch for my son. We are Irish so it fit perfectly for St Paddy's Day. The glass on the face of the watch was cracked when he received it, however, NatGeo IMMEDIATELY replaced it. He is very happy with National Geographic and the new pocket watch.

I bought this for my son as a gift when he returns from Afghanistan. He was looking at antique compasses before he left. The Celtic design on this compass is beautiful. The finish and weight also add to it's look of good quality. Great as a collectable but also useful! I know he will love it!

Poor Quality. Not as nice as I thought it was going to be. Looks cheap. To use the compass it must be PERFECTLY flat. Needle will hang up and not rotate properly.

This hearty forest green cardigan takes its inspiration from military-style Irish sweaters, often worn by volunteers who fought with the British in WWII. Although Ireland was neutral and relations with Britain were strained, thousands of men and women chose to join the Allied cause as members of the British Royal Army and Merchant Navy, or by working in British factories. Our contemporary version uses rich leather to enhance frequent wear points, ensuring years of rugged outdoor wear. Leather shoulders help keep expedition gear and luggage straps from slipping off. Front slash pockets add functionality and make this sweater an alternative to a jacket on milder winter days. Pure Irish wool, knit in Ireland.

For hundreds of years, women in the rural villages of the Aran Islands off the western coast of Ireland have knit natural wool sweaters for their fisherman kin. Although the myth that you can identify island families by the stiches in their sweater—like a Scottish tartan—isn't true, every knitter does have her own special patterns, passed down through generations of mothers and grandmothers. At weekly gatherings, they continually invented intricate new stitches.

The Irish claddagh, dating back to 16th-century County Galway, is a pair of clasped hands holding a crowned heart that symbolizes love, friendship, and loyalty. Here the claddagh is stamped into a sterling silver circle, symbolic of everlasting life, and paired with beautifully faceted kelly green Swarovski crystal briolettes. The sentiment is at once universal and uniquely Irish. The necklace also features the words ''love,'' ''friendship,'' and ''loyalty.''
