Comments about Taj Mahal Silk Jacket:

I don't understand the negative comments about this jacket. Yes, it's made from a light silk and the stitching is machine-embroidered cotton thread. However, the design is beautiful and the colors attractive. The fit is a bit boxy, but you can easily make it work with a fitted pair of pants/dress/skirt. This is a striking jacket.

I work in a formal office (people typically wear suits) and I wore this with a simple, fitted dress underneath. I was stopped repeatedly by coworkers asking me where I got the jacket.

Comments about Taj Mahal Silk Jacket:

The jacket fabric is nice ~ similar to a silk shantung. The embroidery, however, doesn't match the dressiness quality of the jacket fabric. The stitching--which appears to be cotton thread-- is clearly machine stitching and not terribly precise.

The overall pattern and its placement on the jacket is nice and the color combo is lovely for autumn. Works best for casual wear; not super dressy. Wish the embroidery had been done in silk.

I purchased mine for the sale price; would have returned the jacket if I had paid full price.

It’s a tough hours-long hike to India’s Valley of Flowers National Park, and acclimating to the 11,000-14,000-foot altitude takes days. But the effort is worth it for an otherworldly glimpse of alpine meadows thickly blanketed in native flowers. Fortunately our Himalayan Embroidered Silk Jacket requires no such arduous journey to appreciate its heavily embroidered fields of flowers. The front, sleeves, and lower back of this silk jacket are covered with sumptuous embroidery in a chain-stitch style.

For most of the year, northern India’s Valley of Flowers National Park is covered in snow. But when the thaw arrives in late spring, it reveals lush meadows carpeted with daisies, anemones, marigolds, and more, including several endangered and endemic species found nowhere else in the world. Even the elusive and endangered snow leopard has been spotted in the park.

The artisan who designed this luxurious silk and cashmere-blend scarf first visited the Taj Mahal when he was 13, and the story of Shah Jahan’s breathtaking monument to his late wife Mumtaz left a lasting impression. Glimpses of the Taj Mahal—architectural details, inlaid marble, precious stones—form an ornate mosaic on this delicate and supremely soft shawl. “This is how I imagine the emperor viewed the Taj in his final days, keeping his love for Mumtaz alive through its beauty,” the artisan says. The images are digitally printed on a blend of silk and cashmere. The effect is part photograph, part stained glass, and entirely eye-catching.

Red cliffs and palm trees rise above a secluded stretch of sand at Varkala Beach on India’s southwestern coast. Locals also call it Papanasam Beach, which means “destroyer of sins,” and reflects the belief that a dip in the water can purify one’s soul. Our silk jacket is inspired by Varkala’s turquoise waters and calming spirit. It features hand-embroidered paisley and floral patterns on the front and back. Unlined. Knot buttons.

Silk saris get a second life in this innovative, handwoven jacket. Textile artisans in India use strips of vintage saris to form a loose basket-weave fabric. A typical sari can be anywhere from 10 to 30 feet long, so it’s a perfect source of vibrant fabric for up-cycled designs like this one. Colors may vary slightly as each jacket is individually made from hand-dyed fabric. Unlined. Front patch pockets.

Intricately hand-tie-dyed textiles (called bandhani or bandhej) are a specialty of Gujarat in western India. Fabrics are pinched, pulled, and wrapped with thread before being dyed, creating patterns where the thread resists the color. Some of the best bandhani is found in Gujarat wedding saris. The vivid emerald and teal hues of this reversible, lightly quilted silk wrap jacket are the result of hours of dyeing to achieve the brightest possible colors. Please accept variations in the hand-dyed fabric.

The lacy teardrop shape known as paisley originated in Persia and came to be closely associated with the work of Indian Kashmiri weavers. As trade between Asia and Europe expanded in the 18th century, demand for the pattern was so great that weavers in the town of Paisley, Scotland, created their own version of the design, giving the pattern its Western name. Incorporating these curved and leaflike paisley shapes, our jacket is handcrafted of 100% silk. Artisans working in India embellish each jacket by hand with embroidery and beadwork, guaranteeing that no two will be exactly alike. Fully lined.

          (Based on 5 reviews)
          Category: Clothing/Women's Clothing/Jackets and Vests

The swirling pattern of paisley—in Farsi called boteh, the word for a young flower or palm leaf—evolved from a traditional Kashmiri design. The Silk Road brought Kashmiri shawls to Europe where they became wildly popular. The Scottish mill that was first able to re-create the intricate design was in Paisley, Scotland, and gave the pattern its English name. This lightweight, 100% cotton, open-front jacket is made in India with an allover paisley pattern and hand-beaded accents. The greens, blues, reds, and pinks evoke the flowers in Kashmir's Shalimar Garden, built by 17th-century Mughal emperor Jahangir and famous for its nightly fountain displays.
