Meet the Barretts, a small-town Tennessee family responsible for putting guns in the hands of some of the best military snipers on the planet: Ronnie Barrett, designer and businessman at the helm of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, and his two children Chris and Angela. Their flagship M107 sniper rifle, the world’s first semi-automatic .50 caliber rifle, can disrupt a car bomb from more than two football fields away.

National Geographic goes inside this family, considered “rock stars” in the world of firearms, to follow the production of rifles—from the research and innovative design phase to manufacturing, assembling and test firing.
