I absolutely LOVE this shirt! I bought it about a year ago, and it is still my favorite shirt in my closet.

The fabric is soft as a baby's skin and drapes beautifully. The colors are lush and saturated. I can wear it with jeans and sandals or dress it up with a black skirt and heels.

Most of all I adore the way it fits, although it does run small. I am a petite and full-figured size 14, and I think it is very flattering on me. The large was too snug on my curves, so I returned it and got the XL instead and it fits like it was made for me. So I suggest you order a size larger than your usual and you should have no problems.

The only down side for me is that after a year of heavy use, the fabric is starting to show minimal signs of wear. There is a bit of a halo to the fabric now that was not there when it was new. That may be my fault because I have worn this shirt at least once a week since I got it and I machine wash and dry it after every use.

And still, I would buy one of these in a dozen different patterns and colors if they had it. It's a great shirt!

    A Bit Dowdy

This shirt runs large. I've worn this shirt with jeans on weekends. The color tends to lighten with washing. The fabric feels and looks cheap. Would not recommend.

I bought this for travel on an upcoming river cruise, I'm looking for tops that don't wrinkle. This is that shirt. The bonuses were that the colors are true to the photo in the catalog, the length is a little longer and fits well over any pant top, jeans or dress pants. I've worn it for work and for casual and it worked well for both. I highly recommend this shirt, great value for the price.

Patola is a form of double-ikat weaving, meaning that both the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads are dyed before being strung on the loom. This intricate process results in a bold pattern, often on a red background. It is practiced in many parts of Southeast Asia but is a particular specialty of Gujarat, where silk patola saris are often part of a bride’s trousseau.

In the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan, houses are often decorated with mandana paintings. This traditional folk art is often painted on the earthen walls, or on ground in front of one’s home, using red sand, ocher, and chalk powder, and the patterns often allude to Hindu gods, offering prayers for rain, a good harvest, good health, and more.

As early as the second century B.C., merchants were regularly using the interlocked trading routes across Asia, northern Africa, and Europe now known as the Silk Road. Chinese emperors tried to retain their monopoly on silk by keeping production methods secret, but it soon became a globally sought-after luxury good.

The Indian city of Madras (now called Chennai) has been home to a cotton textile industry for almost 1,000 years. When Scottish regiments were based in southern India in the early 1800s, Madras textile makers began reproducing the soldiers’ tartan plaids, and today those plaids are synonymous with the Madras fabric.

Lace-making is a relatively recent addition to the vast textile history of the Indian subcontinent. In the 1800s, especially in the eastern coastal Godavari regions, lace-making was introduced as way for poor women to earn an income while still being able to stay home and care for their families. The lace insets that grace the shoulders of this cotton shirt are exactly the type of embellishment that women were creating for export more than 200 years ago. The front is also hand- embroidered with floral patterns in white and ivory. Features tabbed 3/4-length sleeves and a relaxed Mandarin-style collar.

Throughout India, Hindu festivals are accompanied by intricate rangoli—designs “painted” on the ground using rice, sand, even flower petals. These auspicious symbols are the inspiration for the embroidered designs on our black travel shirt. At the center of each medallion along the neckline is a small mirror, a traditional part of Diwali decorations in northwestern India. An ideal travel shirt, the soft knit resists wrinkles and drapes beautifully the moment it’s unpacked. Purple seams decorate the front and back.
