The first globe arrived with the South Pole spindle broken. The replacement was fine although the design for the pole attachments needs improvement-and less plastic.

Comments about National Geographic Bowers Illuminated Globe:

The electronics that control the lights don't function correctly- lights come on and off randomly by themselves, and don't always respond to tapping/movement as intended. It squeaks loudly when turned. Also, pin holding globe to stand is stuck and can't be removed to change batteries.

Comments about National Geographic Bowers Illuminated Globe:

In responding to the previous reviewer, it will automatically turn off after a while.
My 5 year old daughter has a lot of fun with making imaginative trip around the world.
I also ask her some questions.
The quality satisfies my need, I did notice the base plate is on the light side, which makes the unit less stable. It would be nice to use solid brass/steel.
The size is on the small side.

          • Cheaply Made

          Best Uses

Comments about National Geographic Bowers Illuminated Globe:

We just received this today as a Christmas present for our son and will be returning it. It's very cheaply made. It's a very thin plastic and the countries aren't outlined well as shown in the picture. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off and there were no instructions on how to do this. For the price I expected much better quality. I know it's a thin plastic so it can illuminate but I think the plastic should be thicker and illumination should be decreased, it's really bright. I'd definately look elsewhere.
