The new Grosvenor globe combines up-to-date National Geographic cartography with an antique look reminiscent of hand-drawn parchment maps of old. With more than 4,000 place-names and raised relief to suggest the Earth’s topography. Printed on paper gores over a plastic ball. The meridian and base are die-cast, antiqued brass-plated steel. Made in the U.S.A.

The globe is named after National Geographic magazine’s first editor, Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor, who was appointed by Alexander Graham Bell as the Society’s first full-time employee. He served as president and editor from 1899 through 1954.

              Comments about Grosvenor Desk Globe:

This is intended as a gift. It's handsome and well constructed. Not as detailed as one I received in the 1980's. The one drawback is that it doesn't rotate so the southern hemisphere can be visualized from the top.

              Comments about Grosvenor Desk Globe:

Our son uses this globe to study the planet and countries, along with a large atlas from National Geographic I had bought myself 10 years ago (about time to upgrade that to a new version, LOL). This globe is great for younger children who want to learn about our world...and the relief is enough that he goes to the atlas to study an area and see even more detail about mountains or deep ocean areas. A great buy to further his learning and interest in the world we live in!!!

This globe is beautiful - the colour scheme and the relief detail are great. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the base/meridian material. It is however a high quality globe and I think it's well worth the price.
