Comments about Charcoal Irish Celtic Wool Pullover:

The sweater looks just like the picture in the catalog. The size was accurate, and I was looking forward to wearing it, but the wool is very scratchy and uncomfortable. I tried to wear a T shirt under it, but the arms were still bad. If that doesn't bother you, then you'll really like it.

Comments about Charcoal Irish Celtic Wool Pullover:

I ordered three of these in three different sizes, L, XL, and XXL for the men in the family who all happen to have long bodies. The XXL arrived right away and I ended up giving it to the one I had intended the XL for because these seem to run about a size smaller than I was expecting, particularly the length. Loved the sweater though, as did the recipient.

Our handsome herringbone-patterned wool scarf is designed and woven by a husband-and-wife team in their County Clare workshop, using an antique Hattersley Domestic loom from the early 1900s. These narrow machines, made in Yorkshire, England, of cast-iron, leather, and wood, are especially suited to weaving scarves because they create two naturally reinforced selvedge edges, rather than the cut and sewn edges found on industrially woven scarves.

The cool climate of Ireland’s Aran Islands calls for a cozy wool poncho like this one. Although the three islands are home to only 1,200 people, Aran knitting is recognizable worldwide. The pattern on this Aran poncho is the horseshoe cable stitch, inspired by the hoofprints of the horses that helped drag fishing boats above the high-water mark on the island of Inishmore.

The grounds of Vienna's Belvedere Palace have hosted one of Europe's greatest gardens since Belvedere was designed in the early 1700s. Topiary-lined avenues exist alongside the emperor's baroque private garden. This double-faced boiled wool jacket is designed with the same traditionally Austrian combination of elegance and exuberance. The classic Austrian cut emphasizes a design heritage as refined as the garden's formal walkways, while scrolling velvet trim along the collar, hem, and sleeves adds a playful spark to a sophisticated style. The wind-resistant and wrinkle-free natural fiber is ideal for travel.

The Celtic knot, or triquetra, that frames this sparkling necklace dates back to the 6th-century, when art from Ireland and the British Isles developed into a style that was unique from the rest of Europe. Illuminated manuscripts like the Lindisfarne Gospels, the Book of Durrow, and the Book of Kells are full of illustrations featuring complex knotwork. In Celtic and Pagan traditions, the triquetra symbolizes earth, sun, and sky, or the stages of a woman’s life: young woman, mother, and grandmother. In Christian tradition, it is a symbol of the holy trinity.

For hundreds of years, women in the rural villages of the Aran Islands off the western coast of Ireland have knit natural wool sweaters for their fisherman kin. Although the myth that you can identify island families by the stiches in their sweater—like a Scottish tartan—isn't true, every knitter does have her own special patterns, passed down through generations of mothers and grandmothers. At weekly gatherings, they continually invented intricate new stitches.

Part of standard-issue military wear during WWII, sweaters like this olive wool pullover were popular among servicemen for comfort, durability, and easy pullover warmth. The shawl-collar style buttons up to cut the cold just as it did onboard aircraft carriers in the '40s. Cotton twill canvas-reinforced elbows add durability. Imported.
